Well the wrap up of today..... the rack looks nice!!! Yep not much success in getting it all to work today, but I got the rack in place and have rearranged things to allow an extra server or two to be squeezed into the room. Unfortunately FMP Server wasn't as easy to set up as I thought it would be. I guess I got about 1.5 hours of time to actually work on it by the time I finished unpacking and setting up and just poking about OS X Server for a bit. I think it may be best to just run FMP Server under OS 9.2. I have been touring the forums tonight and it seems to be a bit slow. BUT I haven't run the upgrades that FMP Server needs, nor have I updated OS X to the lastest version - I was also disappointed to find that 10.1.2 is installed - that's two upgrades behind!! Oh but is a 933 G4 and a 15 inch TFT a very very nice machine - oh yeah!!! I want one, no two, no THREE!!! Still trying to work out good reasons why I just HAVE to bring the servers home one at a time - i think the upgrading they need will be a good reason!! After all it just won't be possible on that slow school connection ;)
Tomorrow might be a bit of fun, if it isn't so freezing cold again, when Steve, myself and some of the guys get together and make a joke promo of the next BB PA Camp. Well, we might, you'll hear more tomorrow. See you then. [Comment] [GuestBook] [Archive]

The
40 hour famine cam is up and running over this weekend. Have a look and see just how scary the youth of Australia can be.
UPDATE: apparently no 40 Hour Famine this weekend. When I know more you will!!!
UPDATE:that was no famine for Tim Holmes. I will find out why and get back to you.
I have so far removed the wall cabinet and moved in a rack.....hmmm not much server installation is it? I don't know why I am putting it off, anyway I am going to have some lunch and then come back and get started on the first server. That will be an easy one, just starting it up and putting filemaker pro server on it. The second one is the tricky one. More soon. [Comment] [GuestBook] [Archive]

Well I read through most of the 350 pages last night and seems like it's all good. Just importing 1600 users is the tricky part. Today I will try the Migration software that Apple have made to move from our older servers to the OS X Server. If that works then it is all good!!! If not then I still have two other possibilities. Oh well, I better get going. [

I'm sure that the last servers we got came with a 16 page set up guide and a 40 page Admin user guide. I set them up in about a day [when you add together all the little bits of time spent thinking, exporting, importing, thinking again, setting up shares]. The new ones come with a 350page Admin user guide and I have a 1400 page book as well which will be a useful resource. Tomorrow I head into work to set up one of the servers just as Database and web server. As well as attempting to migrate all the data from our current serves into the new ones. I am worried that the change to OS X has maybe increased the power and options available to me at the cost of ease of use. But then again, this IS Apple, and if they are good at anything it's making things easy to configure and use. So i am really looking forward to tomorrow.
As for the funny thing of today - d'uh I forget .... Actually, no, year 9 maths, one of my students came in late and had a huge wad of something in his mouth. Turned out to be a whole pack of those new Trebdour 24-7 gum/mint things. I should have followed up later - they are full of NutraSweet the artificial sweetener that has a strong laxative effect! :) - Rob said something nice in my guestbook- thanks. Maybe YOU have something to say. [Comment] [GuestBook] [Archive]

Had a bit of fun at Boys' Brigade tonight. Wrote a song with James Noble - '18' is the name of the tune and shortly you should be able to read the lyrics and maybe even hear it sung!
Last night the blogger was causing a lot of errors and so you didn't get to read a tired and emotional rant that I wrote after bible study. The only useful thing I wrote was to try and record one funny thing that happened at work. Well I can't think of anything funny but I did somehow find myself talking about why I believe in a God who made everything. Can't even remember how it came up - but it was one of those opputunities that just land in your lap sometimes.
The new servers arrived this afternoon and I will be spending some time at work setting them up. I am really looking forward to using them - they are going to be sweet!!! And open up a whole new set of things we could do with the students and I can experiment with more services and how they work. I will definitely be setting up one as a streaming server - I want to get some kids together to make a weekly news/current affairs program which would be available on the intranet.
Tonight I spoke at BB about loving one another and thinking about how we treat each other. I was joking with Matty later, that you cn tell what ever I am stuggling with cos it turns up in devotions. Well it's true. I don't feel like I am being very loving at the moment. One person in particular keeps getting slammed, and I jusy can't stop myself. I don't even know why - it's just like I got into the habit and can't get out. I want to - and I don't think there is some magical way to do it either. It's gonna take some serious time with God talking to Him about how I feel and why and then praying for insight into understanding myself and why I am reacting the way I am.
Oh and hi to James who visitied my Guestbook. Maybe some of you other people might want to say hi too! [Comment] [GuestBook] [Archive]

That's that! Up to date with marking - for now, although my year 9 computers class rekon I have a test of theirs which I haven't marked - I don;t remember it!!! And as for knowing where it is - well I have not a single thought as to where it's whereabouts are where about. Now all that's is to do is to write the half yearly reports for all these darling children I teach. Today [I should be asleep] is a day off classes :) to finsih off all the stuff outstanding with the year 11 outcomes based reporting package - that's the theory anyway. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what new problems arise. I am going to enjoy it though. Night gentle readers. And may I recommend dropping by the old guestbook and saying hi!!! [

Now some would see
this as proof of how crap XP really is - hmm, actually I think just about all of us would really.
Be patient it's a big file - over 150 bug fixes, who knows what else lurks beneath.....
Here are some of my favourites:
1. STOP Error When You Start Windows After You Connect a Scanner
2. Driver Signing Does Not Work When the Out-Of-Box Experience Process Initiates a Factory Mode Process [hmm maybe Rob is correct about M$ being the anti-christ, "out of box experience"!!!!]
3. Backup Now and Defragment Now Buttons Start the Wrong Tools [ooops, now that would suck. Not that backing up or defragging are that important.]
4. You Cannot Log On to Windows XP After Running the Out-of-Box Experience [now this is scary - stuck out of the box and unable to get back in - clearly the anti-christ still has a bit to learn yet] [Comment] [GuestBook] [Archive]

The next version of Mac OS X can be
viewed here - a few nifty screenshots show the awesome stuff just around the corner for us Mac users. I'm Excited!
In unrelated news, I have now got all the bits in place will allows me to publish The Paper completely in OS X and so transmission will resume shortly. Well in manner which some may not call shortly but will just have to suffice for now. [Comment] [GuestBook] [Archive]
