Welcome to the second issue of The Paper. It's been a long time between issues and I hope the wait has been worth it. This issue was solely written by me and includes comments from the Boys to give the main idea of how the activity went I still haven't got around to putting on any photos yet - so this is just one text document. ENJOY!! BUSY..... That's the only way to describe the first 2 Months of BB this year. The year began with PA Camp in Perth and hasn't slowed down since then - KYCKSTART, Seniors' Retreat, David Bell's induction, Jameroo....

PA Camp
The first event of the year was the PA Camp held in Perth. Held once every three years, Brendan Daly, Gavin Smith, Peter Dearth and Stephen Dearth went over and had a great time.

Activities included Assault Course, Bike Riding, Sailing, Desktop Publishing, Morning Devotions, challenging talks, Rock Climbing, Go-Karting, Seniors Night Out [including a smuggled Peter Dearth] and a lot of outrageous, over-the-top, attention seeking behaviour.

Comments from the participants.....
Brendan,
For me the best part was not having to organise anything and not having to be responsible for anything other than trying to have more fun than Peter Dearth ŚFrom the left - PAC Wave - 10.9.8.7.6.5.4.3.2.1.Yeah!’ and of course the Gallant!!!

Steven Dearth,
PA Camp was a bit long, but it was well worth the money. The best thing would have to have been Adventure World [a scaled down Wonderland]”

Peter Dearth,
The PA Camp in Perth was really cool! There were lots of Boys and most of them had a god time. ... I made lots of friends. We went sailing, bike riding, spending lots of money, go-karting (I was the best) and BUNGEE JUMPING [Gavin and Brendan went too] plus much more! I expect to see everyone at Queensland in 1999. - The honourable Peter Dearth

Gavin Smith,
The 1996 Pan Australian Camp was held in WA. It was a great camp, thoroughly enjoyed by the 548 young men and officers who attended. Activities included Go-Karting, sightseeing of Perth, Cables Water Skiing and sailing. The Zeewyk company was , no doubt, the best, Inventing the Mexican waves on the double Decker which transported us around the tiny town of Perth for the two weeks. For these 2 weeks the population of Perth doubled.”


KYCKSTART Ś96
Attitude
Studying the book of Philippians and its words on our attitude, a whole bunch of GB and BB went up to Katoomba for this gathering of Christians who wished to have their minds renewed and transformed by the teaching. This was certainly the case.

We had a great time together staying at Kevin Barties house and driving around Katoomba.

Some comments from.....
Stephen Chensee,

David Fletcher,
This year KYCKSTART was really good. The theme was Śattitude’ from Philippians. The message was really challenging and well presented. The musical items presented were really good also.”


Seniors’ Retreat
This year the seniors [15+], Brendan, James and David Fletcher went into the deep dark south to get away from it all and to learn more about ourselves and what we wanted to do at Boys’ Brigade.

There was ample time to talk and play cricket and eat - which I guess sums up the weekend - which also included a time of encouragement and 2 [more like 3!!] hours alone with just a bible, pen, paper and some questions. All came away feeling closer to God and each other and enthusiastic about the year.

From those that went....
Gavin Smith says,
It was a time when us seniors could relax without the juniors. We planned things for the year and got to know each other better. We did get a lot out of this weekend both spiritually and emotionally. On the Sunday on the way home we all wound down by scoffing down a couple of Whoppers each at Hungry Jacks.

James Hogg says,
We were blessed with a great weekend, and spent it getting to know each other on a social and spiritual level. Look forward to this annual event again next year, hopefully at a location where the flies aren’t as big as cockroaches and don’t have teeth - roving reporter Jim

David Houghton says,

Jamberoo Camp
Combined with the GB this camp saw us camped in the grounds of Jamberoo Recreation Park [You Control the Action] for a change of scenery from Wonderland.

Said.....
Brendan,
smokin’ [no it wasn’t my tyres it was my engine!] - It took me 5 hours to get here!

Michael Konchenko,
only one thing I disliked, Brendan’s tin can breaking down and having to put up my tent at 2 in the morning.”

Ben Smith,
The weekend was good only because of the Toboggans and the camping and the McDonalds [Sunday morning 6am before church]. It would have been better if it wasn’t raining on Saturday. It was fun waiting up til 2am waiting for Brendan’s car. The water slides and the pool and the toboggans and the speed boats were the best.”

Matthew Fletcher,
It was a bit disappointing in the rain but generally we had a great time. The talk on Sunday morning was very inspiring.”


That Proves It...
Jan and Feb were very busy and March has been too - Franklin Graham, City Youth Convention, Church Parade, 2 Communion Services to attend and .......

Term 2 should settle down a bit and see us working on the skills award. Should anyone hve a skill they could share or an idea of a skill they’d like to learn contact Brendan.
